School uniforms ka idea discipline, equality aur distraction-free environment create karna hai. But jab dress codes religious symbols, cultural identity, ya gender expression se clash karein, tab legal questions uthte hain.
Courts generally balance do cheezein:
- Institution ka right to maintain order and uniform standards,
- Student ka right to expression, religion, privacy and dignity.
Agar dress code neutral, reasonable aur safety/decency pe based ho – jaise lab me shoes, PE kit, ban on offensive slogans – to wo usually uphold hota hai. Problem tab hoti hai jab rules selectively enforce ho, ya kisi particular faith/gender identity ko disproportionately target karein.
Solutions me kabhi-kabhi reasonable accommodation hota hai – like specific colour ka headscarf allow karna, or minor modifications that still broadly match uniform. Total ban ya humiliation-type enforcement pe courts zyada strict rehte hain.
Parents ko bhi samajhna chahiye ki schools ka environment sab ke liye workable hona chahiye. Dialogue, not instant litigation, pehle try karna better hai. Lekin jab genuine discrimination ho, law zaroor support de sakta hai.
