Hospital me operation ke pehle jo consent form diya jata hai, wo sirf formality nahi hai. Law ke hisaab se “informed consent” ka matlab hai ki patient ko real, understandable information milne ke baad hi wo agree kare – especially invasive procedures ke liye.
Doctors ko normally explain karna chahiye:
- Proposed surgery ya procedure ka nature,
- Expected benefits,
- Major risks and potential complications (even if rare but serious),
- Possible alternatives (including no treatment),
- Recovery process and lifestyle impact.
Consent ideally voluntary ho, bina coercion ya misrepresentation ke. Emergency me unconscious patient ke case me exception hota hai, jahan life-saving treatment delay nahi kiya ja sakta.
Signed form useful evidence hota hai, lekin khali paper pe signature se kaam nahi chalna chahiye. Agar doctor ne kabhi explain hi nahi kiya, aur serious complication arise hua, to patient later medical negligence claim me yeh point raise kar sakta hai.
Patients ke liye advice: sharmana nahi; sawal poochho. “Kya risk hai?”, “Agar na karaun to kya hoga?”, “Recovery kitni lambi hai?” – yeh sab genuine queries hain, aur unka jawab milna aapka right hai.
